Text to Speech
Paste anything (an article, your essay, an email you're about to send) and press Read aloud. It uses the voices already built into your phone, laptop and browser, so it costs nothing, needs no account, and sends nothing anywhere. Pick a voice from the list (voices in your device's language come first), slow it down to 0.5× or speed it up to 2×, and change the pitch. The sentence being read shows under the controls, which makes it easy to follow along or catch a typo you'd skim past with your eyes. Long text is read sentence by sentence, so it doesn't cut off partway, which a single long utterance does in Chrome after about 15 seconds. The voices are your device's, so they sound different on an iPhone, a Windows laptop and an Android phone. Speech plays in the browser and can't be saved as an MP3.
