- How are the days counted?
- The count is the number of midnights between today and the date you pick. Tomorrow is 1 day away, and a date a week from today is 7 days away. Today itself isn't counted, which matches how people say "three days until Friday" on a Tuesday. On September 15, 2026, Christmas is 101 days away. The math uses calendar dates, not a stopwatch, so the time of day you open the page doesn't change the answer.
- What does Count the end day do?
- It counts both ends: today and the target date. That adds 1 to the total, so 101 days becomes 102. Use it when every day in the span matters on its own, like the days of a trip, a hotel booking you're pricing per day, or a 30-day challenge that starts today. Leave it off for the everyday "how long until" question. In the weekday count, the toggle adds today only if today is Monday to Friday.
- Why doesn't daylight saving time throw the count off?
- Many counters subtract two timestamps and divide by 24 hours. On the night clocks fall back, a day is 25 hours long, so that math can land on 47.96 days and round the wrong way. In the US, clocks fall back on November 1, 2026. This calculator counts calendar dates instead, so September 15 to November 2 is 48 days in New York, Los Angeles, or anywhere else, and the answer is always a whole number.
- Which today does it use if I'm up late?
- Your own. The starting date comes from your device's clock in your time zone. At 11:30 PM on September 15 in Los Angeles it's already September 16 in UTC, and a counter that uses the UTC date will tell you tomorrow is 0 days away. Here, tomorrow is 1 day. If you send a link to someone in another time zone, they see the count from their own today, which can be one day different from yours.
- How are weekdays counted? Does it skip holidays?
- Weekdays are Monday through Friday in the span, and holidays are not removed. From Tuesday, September 15, 2026 to Friday, December 25, 2026 there are 73 weekdays, and Christmas Day is one of them. - How does it turn days into months?
- It counts whole calendar months first, then the leftover days. September 15 to December 15 is 3 months, and December 15 to December 25 is 10 more days, so 101 days reads as 3 months, 10 days. Months have 28 to 31 days, so the same number of days can be a different month count depending on where you start. Weeks are simpler: 101 days is 14 weeks and 3 days.
- When is Thanksgiving, and how do the event buttons pick a year?
- US Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November: November 26 in 2026, November 25 in 2027, and November 23 in 2028. Every event button jumps to the next time that date comes around. On December 26, 2026, Christmas jumps to December 25, 2027. On the day itself, it stays on today and the result reads "That's today."
- Can I count days since a past date?
- Yes. Pick any past date and the result switches to days ago, like "257 days ago, since Thursday, January 1, 2026". The weeks, months, and weekday breakdown still shows, as positive numbers. It works for any year from 1000 to 9999, and leap days are counted: February 29, 2028 is 532 days from September 15, 2026.
- Is my date saved anywhere?
- No. The count runs in your browser. The only place the date goes is the page address, as ?date=2026-12-25, so a bookmark or a shared link reopens the same count. There's no account, no reminder sign-up, and nothing to install. Remove the date from the box and it's gone from the address too.
