What the Signature Generator does

The Signature Generator turns your name into a signature image you can download. Draw it with a mouse, finger or stylus, or type your name and pick a handwriting style. Then save it as a transparent PNG or a white-background JPG and upload it wherever a form asks for one.

That's the usual reason people land here. You're halfway through an application, a lease or an onboarding form, and the next field says "Upload signature." There's no scanner nearby and no saved image. Making one takes about thirty seconds, and there's no account to create.

Big Software tends to turn this small job into a trial: sign up to download, upgrade to remove the watermark, install the app to save. Here the download button is the last step. Your name and strokes stay in the browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server.

How to make a signature online

  1. Choose Draw to sign by hand, or Type to enter your name.
  2. In Draw mode, pick a stroke: Thin, Medium or Thick. In Type mode, pick a style: Flowing or Handwritten.
  3. Choose Black or Blue ink. You can change ink, stroke and style after you sign; the preview updates.
  4. Press Download PNG · transparent or Download JPG · white background.
  5. Upload the file to the form, or insert it into your document.

Undo removes your last stroke in Draw mode. Clear wipes the drawing, or empties the name box in Type mode.

Draw or type: which signature should you use?

Both make the same kind of file. The difference is whose handwriting is in it.

If the document will sit next to signatures you've made on paper, draw. A bank or landlord comparing your marks will expect them to look alike. If you just need a neat cursive name for a form, a newsletter sign-off or a certificate, type it.

The two typed styles

Flowing is a formal, connected script, the kind people mean when they search for a cursive signature generator. Handwritten is a relaxed marker-pen hand that reads more like a quick note. Type your name once and click between them; the preview redraws instantly. Long names shrink to fit the width, so a 40-character name still comes out whole.

Fonts don't cover every alphabet. If your name has characters a style doesn't include, your device fills them in with another font, and the result can look mismatched. Check the preview. If it looks off, draw instead.

Tips for a better drawn signature

  • Sign big. Use most of the drawing area. The download is cropped to your ink, so a large signature keeps more detail than a tiny one in the corner.
  • Turn your phone sideways. A wider drawing area gives your hand room to move, and a finger signature looks far less cramped.
  • Try Medium or Thick on a phone. Thin lines from a fingertip can look shaky once the image is shrunk on a form. A heavier stroke hides small wobbles.
  • Sign three times, keep the best. Clear and redo costs nothing. Most people's third attempt is their most natural.
  • Use Undo for one bad stroke. A stray dot or a slipped crossbar doesn't mean starting over.
  • Pick blue if it should look signed in pen. Blue ink shows at a glance that a printed page was signed, not photocopied. Some forms ask for black; check before you choose.

Drawing stopped working? A signature can hold up to 200 strokes. If you hit the limit, the tool tells you. Undo a few strokes or clear and sign again. Few real signatures come anywhere close.

PNG or JPG: choosing the right download

FormatBackgroundUse it when
PNGTransparentThe signature goes on top of a document, letterhead or photo, and you don't want a white box around it
JPGWhiteThe upload field says JPG or JPEG, or the site shows transparent images on a dark background

Both downloads are trimmed to your ink plus a 12-pixel margin, so there's no big empty canvas to crop yourself. A drawn signature is at most 1,000 × 320 pixels and a typed one at most 1,000 × 200, which is sharp enough for any form or document.

A transparent PNG with black ink can look empty in a photo viewer with a dark background. It isn't. Open it on white, or drop it into a document, before you assume the export failed.

Some upload fields set rules on size. If a form wants exact pixel dimensions, run the file through the Image Resizer. If it has a file-size cap, the Image Compressor will shrink it. Check that the signature is still readable afterwards.

Where to use your signature image

  • Online forms. Any field that asks you to upload a signature takes the PNG or JPG directly.
  • Word or Google Docs. Insert the PNG as a picture and drag it onto the signature line. The transparent background lets the line show through.
  • PDFs. To stamp a signature onto a PDF page, use Sign PDF. It works in the browser too, and the file isn't uploaded.
  • Email. For a full sign-off block with your name, title and links that pastes into Gmail or Outlook, use the Email Signature Generator.

Want a signature you can copy and paste as text?

This tool makes an image. You can't paste an image into an Instagram bio or a chat name. For that, the Cursive Text Generator turns your name into script-style Unicode letters you can copy and paste anywhere text goes. They're characters, not handwriting, so they work in places images can't.

What a signature image is, and what it isn't

The download is a picture of a signature. It doesn't prove who made it, carry a certificate or keep an audit trail. That's the difference between a signature image and a certificate-backed digital signature.

For a lot of everyday paperwork, an image is all anyone asks for. In the US, the ESIGN Act of 2000 says a signature can't be denied legal effect just because it's electronic. There are exceptions, such as wills, and some organizations insist on their own signing process. If the recipient gives instructions, follow those. When a bank, court or employer sends you a signing link, sign through the link rather than uploading an image.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create a signature from my name?

Choose Type, enter your name, and click between Flowing and Handwritten to compare. Pick black or blue ink, then download a PNG or JPG.

Can I draw a signature on my phone?

Yes. Sign with your finger or a stylus in the drawing area. Turning the phone sideways and choosing a Medium or Thick stroke usually gives the cleanest result.

How do I get a signature with a transparent background?

Download the PNG. It has no background, so the signature sits cleanly on documents and letterheads. The JPG always has white.

Is a signature image legally binding?

An image alone doesn't verify your identity. Electronic signatures are widely accepted, but the recipient decides what they'll take. Follow their instructions, and use their signing process if they have one.

Do you store my signature?

No. The image is made in your browser tab and saved only when you download it. Nothing is uploaded, and reloading the page clears it.

Can I copy and paste my signature as text?

Not from this tool, which makes images. Use the Cursive Text Generator for script-style text you can paste into bios, chats and posts.
